It is with great sadness that Hale Barns Cricket Club have learned of the death of Mike Gittins – our former President and Life Member – who passed away on Monday 6th January.
Sadly, Mike had been suffering from severe dementia for several months and was having mobility difficulties. However, he made a great effort to come along during the summer to watch the Saturday teams.
He was admitted to Wythenshawe Hospital in early December with pneumonia and also with an infection in his bad knee.
Despite the memory issues, he brightened up when mention was made of cricket at Hale Barns and Chester Boughton Hall, for whom he played for for many years.
Mike was elected a Life Member in 2006 and was our President from 2011 to 2014.
We send our condolences to Pat and his family. Mike was a long-standing player, active member and generous benefactor of the Club.
