Ian Bishop 1934 - 2015 - Hale Barns Cricket Club

Ian Bishop 1934 – 2015

It is with great sadness that we announce that Ian passed away peacefully on Sunday 25th October with his family by his side.

Ian joined the Club in 1979 as a playing member however over the years he had contributed greatly to the organisation and  management of the Club in many areas but particularly as Club Chair and Cricket Committee Chair. He also hosted the Match Day Sponsored teas for several years which brought in much needed revenue and kept former members in touch with the Club.

He was elected as a Life Member in 2003 and served as our President from 2008 – 2011. He was also very active with the Cheshire Umpires & Scorers Association as their Training Officer and a former President of the then Meller Braggins Cheshire Cricket League and latterly as Vice President.

Ian was passionate about cricket at Brooks Drive and even though he had been unwell for many months he wanted to be kept in touch with results and developments. He was disappointed not to be able to be present at the Opening of the new Dressing Rooms earlier this year.

Ian`s passing is a great loss to this Club. A kind hearted man who took the trouble to get to know many people connected with Cheshire Cricket and contributed greatly to its development over the years.

The Club sends its condolences to Gwynne, his widow and his family.
