Cricket Chairman 2020 Report

The club competed well across all senior and junior sides in the 2019 season.

Our First Team performed consistently throughout the course of the year and continued to solidify their status as a County League side. Star all-rounder Joe Cooper was rewarded for a tremendous season with bat and ball by receiving the Cheshire County Cricket League Division Two Player of the Year award, having taken a league high 68 wickets and 595 runs. The squad has been bolstered by the recent additions of Liam Smith (Overseas) and Rory Allan (Kolpak). Both of these individuals will bolster the batting talents available to captain Tommy Smith and continue our focus of creating a youthful environment. Elsewhere, former first-teamer Bilal Ahmed has returned to the club after six years away, having left the area for University in 2014.

The Second XI produced some exceptional victories throughout their first season back in the County League. Opening bowlers Jack Wylie and Dave Saddington set the standard with the ball, combining for 67 league wickets. However, inconsistency with the bat plagued the campaign, which ultimately prevented successive promotions.

The Third XI deservedly finished inside the top four of the Cheshire County East League Division One. The side were led by Farhan Rabbani, who was a crucial contributor towards their league success, as well as helping them reach the knockout stages of the T20 Cup for the first time. Newcomer Abdul Rehman proved to be an important addition, scoring two centuries and maintaining a batting average above 40.

I intend for our Sunday Team to continue as a gateway to senior cricket for our talented youth section.

The club has created a ‘Cricket Fund’ and many generous donations have been made so far. I would like everyone to know that 100% of the money sent to this fund will be reinvested into the club. If anybody else would like to donate, please do get in touch.

In the coming months, we will continue to welcome new players and sponsors to the club.

2020 could – and should – be a year to remember for the club. We look forward to kicking the season off in April.
