Hale Barns First XI will compete in the Cheshire County Cricket League Division Two in 2018 after achieving promotion from the CCL Division One last year.
The team found themselves languishing in mid-table halfway through July following an inconsistent start to the campaign, but an incredible run of seven wins from their last nine matches clinched second place behind champions Runcorn.
Newly-appointed captain Ben Hicks led the way with the ball, amassing 61 wickets at an average of 11.95. He registered six five-wicket hauls in total, including a sensational 9-19 against Barnton. Dave Saddington ably assisted Hicks with 33 dismissals, while Joe Fretwell-Walsh (17) and Joe Cooper (16) chipped in at regular intervals too.
Elsewhere, two players stood out with the bat. Cooper completed the year as leading run scorer with 663 at an average of 33.15, scoring centuries in both games against Barnton. Overseas batsman Hashir Dafedar comfortably led the averages at 46.57, recording three unbeaten centuries along the way. Mike Hunter was also a consistent performer, racking up 505 runs and averaging 33.67.
